About Me:
I am Aiysha, founder of The Learning Compass, passionate about education, teaching, and all things learning! I have a cheeky toddler who has just turned 3, love traveling, and am just a tiny bit obsessed with anything magical or fantasy-based. I am based on the outskirts of Reading.
My love of education and languages started very early on. I took maths, English, and French for A level and proceeded to do a joint honours in French and Arabic at Leeds University. During this time, I was lucky enough to live abroad and travel a lot throughout Europe and Africa. I am native English but speak conversational French and Urdu. I am also able to read Arabic and have a basic level of speech and understanding.
My Experiences:
Whilst studying at university, I lived abroad in Morocco for a year. During this time, I taught English to native students part-time and continued to tutor maths and English alongside my studies once returning from England.
After graduating, I began working in London for a marketing agency however left within a year and went back to tutoring. I gained experience tutoring children with all types of needs in Explore Learning and became a manager of the Slough Centre after a few months.
This meant I was training tutors, liaising with parents about their children’s needs, and teaching the national curriculum up to GCSE level.
After 3 years, I moved across the country and joined the team at a school called Releasing Potential which focuses on mentoring and supporting vulnerable young people with mental health challenges and all types of emotional and learning needs. I am still teaching there currently, supporting children online who thrive in non-mainstream environments, focusing on practical life skills and the NCFE curriculum. I also help students privately and work with them on their confidence, self-esteem, exam skills, and communication alongside the national curriculum.
I am currently doing a masters in Psychology with a focus on becoming an Educational Psychologist.
